Verizon’s latest remotes for Fios TV are smaller in size and come with amazing features.
I recently purchased a Fios TV package, and I was very happy with its functionality and operability until my remote suddenly stopped working a few days ago.
Since I was unsure what the issue could have been, I hopped onto the internet to find out what I was dealing with and the most viable solution.
Turns out, many people are having similar issues with their Fios TV remote controls.
Many factors can cause the issue, including low batteries or infrared interference.
However, narrowing down to the issue you face is not easy since you will most likely have to employ the hit and trial method.
Hence, to ease the process and help you find the most appropriate and viable solution, I have formulated this article explaining all the possible issues and their solutions.
If your Verizon Fios TV remote is not working, try rebooting the box and changing the remote batteries. If it still does not work, see if there are any signal obstructions or interferences. Otherwise, you might have to reset the set-top box and reprogram the remote.
Reasons for Fios Remote Not Working
Your Fios TV remote might not be working for several reasons.
Since the remote has to be programmed to the set-top box, several technical issues can arise preventing the remote from operating properly.
The most common issues are:
Drained Batteries
Even if you recently started using the remote control, there is a chance that the batteries are completely drained.
There might be an issue with the batteries you used, or maybe the remote ended up hogging the batteries faster than usual for one reason or another.
Programming Issue
Every remote has to be programmed with a set-top box to function properly.
However, if the remote is not working and the batteries are new, then there might be an issue with the programming.
You might have to reprogram the remote.
Obstacles
Another common issue is that you are trying to operate the set-top box remotely from an area where obstacles are causing a signal issue.
Another reason might be that you are not in the line of sight of the set-top box.
Since Fios TV remotes are based on IR, you have to ensure there are no obstacles and you are in the device’s line of sight.
Reboot Fios Box
If your remote stops working, your first step should be rebooting the Fios set-top box.
Rebooting the system is fairly easy.
All you have to do is unplug the device from the power source and wait for a few minutes.
After waiting, re-plug the power source and wait for a few seconds to allow the device to reboot.
Once the system has rebooted, the remote will most likely have streamlined and started working.
Replace Batteries
There is a chance that the system is not responding to the remote because the remote is not working.
Hence, before forming an opinion that the remote is faulty, check the batteries in the remote.
Try replacing the batteries.
The remote might start working.
In most cases, people ignore the fact that batteries might need replacement solely because they replaced the batteries only a few weeks ago.
However, if you are using cheap batteries, there is a chance they would have drained faster than you expected them to.
This is why, while replacing the batteries, try using higher-end cells that will give you smooth functionality for at least eight to ten months.
Device Not Active
Another issue might be that the device is not active.
Sometimes, the set-top box shows data on the LCD, but it is not actually functional.
Hence, if you see random channel numbers on the device but not responding to the remote, it might be turned off.
Try turning it on using the power button on the device or the remote.
In addition to this, there is a chance that the remote has not been linked properly, so you might have to re-link it.
For this, follow these steps:
- Press the Menu button on the remote.
- Scroll to the Customer Support option and select it.
- Open Home Agent.
- Select Program Remote.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to link the remote.
Signal Obstructions
Like other remotes, the Fios TV remote also uses small near-infrared light to communicate with the receiver.
There are materials through which IR can pass.
However, the near-IR is pretty much similar to the visible red light in terms of wavelength.
Hence, if there is an opaque obstacle, especially a metallic object, the signals will not pass through to the set-top box.
I tried using the remote by placing obstacles like aluminum foil, a plastic sheet, a chain, and other objects.
The remote could only send across signals through the toilet paper, but in case of other obstacles, the set-top box did not pick up on the signal.
To fix this issue, try removing any obstacles that might obstruct the signals from the remote.
Reset Fios Box
If you cannot figure out why your remote is not working, you might have to reset your Fios box.
To reset your Fios box, follow these steps:
- Unplug the power cord from the outlet for 15 seconds, then plug it in.
- Wait until the time details appear on the set-top box’s LCD.
- Turn the device on.
- The Interactive Media Guide updates will start in a few minutes.
If you are still facing the same problem, you might have to re-initialize the set-top box.
Reset and Reprogram the Remote
If the remote is still not working, you might have to Reset your Fios Remote reprogram the remote according to the set-top box.
Fios TV comes with three main types of remote controls, and the programming method for each one of them is different.
You can consult the manual for the programming details.

If it still does not work, you might have to buy a new remote or call Verizon customer support at their toll-free number.
You can also leave them an email.
IR Interference
In rare cases, the Fios Remote doesn’t respond because of IR interference.
This can be caused by overheating of the remote, the set-top box, or any other electrical appliance in the room.
Moreover, if you use the device and the remote in a very cold room, you will notice reduced and hindered connectivity.
Moreover, if other appliances in the room also use IR, you will face reduced remote functionality.
You can solve this by reducing the backlight settings.
Loose Connection
The Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is a device that converts the optical signal coming through the fiber into separate signals for TV.
In case the connection is loose, the remote will not be able to control the set-top box.
Moreover, if you use a splitter with the main fiber, you might face the same issue.
Check for any loose connections to ensure the system is operating properly.
Fios Remote Not Working With TV Box
If the remote is not working with the TV box, try resetting the system.
If this does not work, try rebooting the system.
Otherwise, you might have to call Verizon customer support and get the device replaced.
Verizon Stream TV Remote Not Pairing
You can fix this by placing the Stream TV in Bluetooth discovery mode.
If you don’t have an already paired remote, try using the remote-control app.
Press the OK button and the menu button simultaneously for 6 seconds and then release the buttons simultaneously; you will enter pairing mode.
Fios TV One Remote Pairing Failed
If the remote fails to pair, you can manually pair it.
This can be done using the Program remote option in the settings.
If you don’t have any controlled access to the device, use the Fios Remote App available on the App Store and the Play Store.
Fios Remote Power Button Not Working
If the power button is not working, follow these steps:
- Press the OK and the start-shaped button at the same time.
- The red light will blink twice then will stay on.
- While holding the buttons, press the button that is not working.
The device will check some new codes, and the not working buttons will most likely start working.
Get your Fios Remote Working Again
If you have tried and tested all the methods I have mentioned in this article, but none of them worked for you, there is a chance that the remote you are using is not compatible with the system.
You might have to check another remote with the system to reach a conclusion or call customer care for the compatibility issue.
To ensure there is no issue with the system and the remote is incompatible or faulty, download the Fios app from the App Store or Play Store and pair it with the device.
If the remote app pairs and works properly, then there is definitely an issue with the remote control you are using.
Another possibility is that the TV settings were accidentally changed.
Using the remote, your TV came with the set to either channel 3 or 4, and that it is currently set for the input mode you are trying to control.
